Did you know that the strawberry is marked as the “good will” fruit? This makes a lot of sense after eating one – they do make you feel like engaging in acts of good will!
Unfortunately, strawberries are getting closer and closer to the top of the “most contaminated list” when it comes to chemicals. Not only would it be wise to purchase organic strawberries for this reason but also for the reason that organic strawberries have loads more cancer fighting capabilities.
Keep your strawberries of good will on the counter (rather than the fridge) after purchase as well, this also increases the antioxidant activity.
If you want to store them in your fridge then wash them in a bath of water and distilled white vinegar. This will cleanse them and keep the mold from appearing in what sometimes feels like overnight.
If you’re feeling game, go pick your own from the ground at one of our local PYO (pick your own) farms.
